All flesh is grass

From today's reading of the day, Isaiah 40:

A voice commands, ‘Cry!’
and I answered, ‘What shall I cry?’”
– ‘All flesh is grass
and its beauty like the wild flower’s.
The grass withers, the flower fades
when the breath of the Lord blows on them.
(The grass is without doubt the people.)
The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God remains for ever.’

It is good to keep the eternal in mind. It is so easy to get attached to our physical, material world and especially to our bodies. We think our little ego identity is permanent, fixed, and will go on forever. When we're young and full of vitality we think our body must be indestructible. How quickly pain or suffering can remind us otherwise.
